Summary
In Chapter 43, the piece of glass revealed a chess board on the bottom of the pool. Avery mentally went through the chess moves indicated by the magnetic letters and memorized the position of the final tile. That tile started a chain reaction of tiles moving until the last one in the line popped up. She pulled a flat package out of the compartment underneath.
When Avery swam to the side of the pool a hand closed on hers and Jameson pulled her out. He complimented her for solving the riddle. Together, they opened the package. Inside was a picture of three women in front of a church. The place and time — Margaux, France, December 19, 1973 — were written on the back.
In Chapter 44, as Avery and Jameson thought about the clue they had just been given, Jameson wondered if Tobias might be responsible for Toby...
