Summary

Despite Faith’s apparent acceptance of ShraderCapital’s mismanagement of Loci’s mentorship program, Faith is furious. She creates the opportunity for a standoff with Emmett by emailing him a terse invitation to her apartment. Emmett admits that his original intentions for the project were good, but because of his inability to pay attention during meetings and his disinterest in spearheading projects, the program fell apart. He admits that he only has a vague recollection of the meetings in which the fundamental decisions concerning the project were made.

Emmett becomes wistful of the beginning days of the foundation, when working with Faith “was like being young again” (385). He misses this feeling, as he reflects on his marriage and the founding of ShraderCapital, which essentially brought Faith back to him.
