Summary
Zee muses on the discrepancy between the way that she was raised and the liberties that her brothers were awarded. Her parents always scrutinized the decisions that she made, but went easier on her two brothers because “boys could not be tamed” (224).
The Eisenstat’s are incredibly wealthy and they live in a multi-million dollar home. It is revealed that Zee had actually been born Franny, named after a JD Salinger character. As Zee grew older, she disliked her given name, never feeling like it belonged to her.
To further emphasize her sense of not belonging, she remembers her bat mitzvah, and how uncomfortable she had felt in her dress.
