Alex Craft
Alex Craft is one of the novel’s narrators. She is a unique young woman with her own way of viewing the world. Her father has a terrible temper, and she is said to have inherited this from a young age. Even as a child, she would get very angry if her cousins messed around with her dolls, so she would wait for them to fall asleep and then physically attack them until she was banned from family reunions. She never has any friends, and she is largely unconcerned with the opinions of others. When she gets older, she retains that same fierce and independent streak. She is wildly intelligent and competes with Jack for valedictorian.
