Summary
In Chapter 37, Jack marvels that he has not yet gotten bored with Alex. They cuddle together in his basement, and he wants to ask her if she remembers the night her sister was found, and how Jack had been caught in the woods smoking weed and having sex with Branley. He gets too nervous, so instead he asks her why she does not want to go to college. She clams up and tells him it is none of his business. He is hurt because their relationship has never had any issues before, but now he worries that they might only have the present moment if she refuses to talk about the future and he cannot talk about the past.
In Chapter 38, Alex goes home, and her mother calls her into the living room to drink with her. Alex never speaks to her mother...
