Summary
Juan Tomas Diaz and Modesto Diaz, who is revealed as a part of the conspiracy, arrive back at Juan Diaz’s house after searching for Roman Pupo without success. Antonio de la Maza suggests that Juan Tomas go to the Palace and call for a popular uprising. Salvador returns, and they reject de la Maza’s idea, as well as his second idea that they hang Trujillo’s body in the central square. Antonio is furious at the cowardice of the others, but they manage to calm him down.
As the conspirators split up, Antonio convinces Salvador and Juan Tomas to go into hiding with him. He drives them to the house of Robert Cabral, a brother of a fellow conspirator in the United States.
