Summary
After having left Pedro with Juan Tomas’ son-in-law, Amadito, Imbert, and Salvador decide to go into hiding while de la Maza finds Roman Pupo. As Salvador drives them to Imbert’s cousin who is a doctor and can treat their wounds, Imbert worries that the coup has failed. He says he considered the assassination a suicide mission from the start. Amadito, still optimistic, jokes that he would have written his will if he knew.
Salvador, who knows his car has probably already been found by the SIM, leaves to warn his family. Imbert’s cousin sends Amadito to a small farm owned by his mechanic, an anti-Trujillista. Imbert decides to stay in the city. As Amadito leaves the city, he observes SIM goons in hectic activity.
For three days, he hides out in the farm without food. Starving, Amadito is plagued by nightmares. Finally...
