Summary
At her Aunt Adelina’s house, Urania has just finished dinner. After small-talk, they discuss Agustin and his decline. From Agustin’s perspective, we hear in past-tense about the letter in the Public Forum, Trujillo’s newspaper, which marked the beginning of the end. It accused Agustin of irregularities as Minister of Public Works and says that he has been stripped of the Presidency of the Senate. When he arrived at his office, he found all his meetings cancelled. Interspersed with present dialogue between Urania, Lucinda, and Adelina, we hear how Agustin contacted different high-ranking allies to try and figure out what had happened, but to no avail.
As Lucinda and Adelina rail against Henry Chirinos in the present, we see Agustin figure out Chirinos is behind the affair in 1961. He drove to Chirinos’ house followed by a Volkswagen Beetle full of SIM goons...
