Chapters 3 and 4 Summary

As Richard is convalescing, Julia begins spending more time in the stables with Scheherade until the day Richard sees her there. After that, she tells Jem, their stable boy, that she won't take the horse out as Richard is watching. Jem tells her that the horse needs exercise, and Julia is tempted. However, she does not want Richard angry with her. Richard then asks Celia why Dench wasn't reprimanded for putting Julia on a horse. He points out that Julia might have been thrown and seriously injured. Celia doesn't see it for Richard's anger that Julia rode his horse, but thanks him for being the man of the house and pointing out things that would have escaped her attention.
