Chapters 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 Summary
A week after Hazel, Gus and their parents have dinner at Gus's house, Gus ends up in the hospital with pain in his chest. Hazel visits Gus and his mom says Gus had a rough night and has to cut back on his activity from now on—and that he has to use a wheelchair. His mom says that they need to be a family right now and that Gus agrees, so they don't let Hazel see Gus.
Two weeks later, Hazel is wheeling Gus in his chair to the "Funky Bones" sculpture they visited before. Hazel describes the times she spends with "late-stage Gus." Hazel gets Gus to tell her his sequel to the book, An Imperial Affliction. He tells her some of it but says he is still working on the rest of the outcome.
One afternoon, Hazel finds Gus...
