Chapter 13 Summary
The next day when the recount the story of meeting with Peter to Mrs. Lancaster they make it funny, instead of sad. They tell her about the Anne Frank house, leaving out the kissing. They return to Hazel's room. She sits on the bed and Augustus sits in the chair. He puts one of his signature unlit cigarettes in his mouth. He tells Hazel that right before she went into the ICU, he had a scan. He says he lit up everywhere.
Later, he tells her they started chemo but that he stopped it to come to Amsterdam. That's what he and his mother were arguing about when they picked Augustus up for the airport. He says he felt like it wasn't working anyway and that they'll come up with some other treatment by the time they get to Indiana.
