Point of View
The novel employs a limited third-person point of view that jumps between four different characters: Jane, Ate, Mae, and Reagan. While highlighting on a single character, the reader is able to understand the full thoughts and emotions of that single character, whether it be Jane or Reagan. However, because it is a limited point of view, the reader only has access to that particular character's thoughts in a chapter. This occurs even if one or more of the other main characters are present in the scene or chapter. For example, in a chapter titled "Jane," the reader can access Jane's mind and see all her deep insecurities about her time in Golden Oaks and what she thinks of characters like Reagan and Mae.
