Summary
Jane takes her daughter with her to visit her cousin Ate in the hospital, as she had collapsed during a baby-nurse assignment for the Carters. Jane tries to be affectionate when she sees the sleeping Ate, but hesitates, knowing her cousin would disapprove of such behavior. Though the doctor insists that Ate's EKG results warrant an extended stay, Ate takes Jane and leaves the hospital because she cannot afford treatment. Ate tries to convince Jane to take her place at the Carters, but the latter is hesitant, needing to take care of her daughter Amalia. Despite the expensive fair, Jane takes Ate home to Elmhurst, Queens in a taxi. Ate continues to pressure Jane, who has just left her husband Billy. She and Billy had been living in his parents' basement, and Jane left when she discovered he was cheating on her. Now...
