Summary
In "The Long Walk," Lauren writes about two families who have stopped at a migrant shelter in Mexico, one from Honduras and another from El Salvador. The two groups decided to travel together and were making preparations for a very long walk north. They sorted their belongings into what they would continue to take with them and what they would mail ahead to friends at their destinations. A little girl took a fistful of hand cream and rubbed it into her soles. The women winced, knowing they would need that cream later, but let her take it anyway.
