Summary
In Chapter 42, Lucy goes around to the back of the Cheyne Walk house and finds the door unlocked and panel of glass Miller had broken to get in. Stella thinks the place is scary, and Lucy agrees. Marco, however, likes it. Lucy feels as though the place "has been in stasis waiting for her to come back" (220). Even the shadows look the same. Lucy has now, in the span of only a week, been to the two places - Michael's house in Antibes and now the Cheyne Walk house - where she was deeply hurt and had to escape. She thinks back to Henry and his herb garden, realizing that Henry is now a man. Still, she cannot see him as anything but how she saw Henry the last night they were together in the house.
