Winnie
Winnie represents the heart of the Chao family. Even when she leaves home to live in the Spiritual House, she keeps the brothers together, even begging for them to forgive and love Leo despite his mistakes. She forsakes all of her possessions and her desires, but still searches for ways to keep her family going. This is why the family truly starts to implode after Winnie's first stroke. While it is not clear who killed Leo, it is highly likely that Winnie's suffering mixed with hatred and resentment drove the killer to end Leo's life. Furthermore, Winnie's death after her second stroke is ultimately what sets Ming into a downward spiral of depression, what halts all of James's personal goals, and what leads Dagou into his own depression.
