Summary
"Part Two: The World Sees Them" opens with an omniscient narrator describing how the newcomers first arrived in Haven, ignored by the Americans hard at work. Leo's death put the Asian community into the spotlight, even as many distanced themselves. The people sensed that something was wrong, but the narrator thinks that every family has secrets.
"Three Months Later: The Chinese Brothers" starts with James at Skaer's Diner. After Winnie's deadly second stroke, James did not return to university and feels caught between his old and new selves. He reads an article about Dagou's murder trial as Leo was found dead after the Christmas party. As the article's writer dehumanizes the Asian community, it is revealed that many believed the mutton. Ming paid Dagou's bail but James was barred from talking to the press.
