Eridanus

Eridanus is an area in space that sits on the border of the inner colonies, where human colonies still exist. Eridanus is slightly off the beaten path, so it attracts pirates. In the beginning of the novel, the shuttle Han that Dr. Halsey and Lieutenant Keyes are on is bout to enter the Eridanus system.

Han

The Han is a diplomatic space shuttle or vessel. In the beginning of the novel, Dr. Halsey and Lieutenant Keyes are onboard the Han. The Han is about to enter the Eridanus system. They use the ship to take them to the area where they observe Number 117 at his school.
