Grief
The novel The Fall of Lisa Bellow demonstrates that there are as many ways to cope with grief and loss as there are people. Each character in the novel reacts to the loss in his life in a different way. Some are ways of coping are constructive while some tend to be destructive. Meredith, Evan, Claire, and Colleen are among the characters who illustrate different ways of coping.
Meredith does not cope well with her grief and almost destroys herself in the process of trying to symbolically save Lisa. Meredith realizes right away that she would have been a bigger help in finding Lisa alive if she had lifted her head to look at the car or get the license plate. In order to cope with the guilt she feels, Meredith creates an alternate reality in which she is with Lisa in her captor’s apartment...
