Chapter 34

Severn farcasts to Pacem to visit Father Edouard. He is shocked to find Father Dure sitting with his old friend. Dure tells the tale of what happened to him after he entered the glowing Time Tomb. Inside, he found a tunnel lined with glowing cruciforms and followed the passage which led downward until it connected to the famed Labyrinth beneath Hyperion. Inside the wide Labyrinth walls were human bodies, piled up as far as Father Dure could see. The corpses are old and desiccated, yet Dure senses they originate from the future. He walks for some time through the carnage until the Shrike appears. It skewers the cruciform on Dure's chest and removes it, then shoves Dure through a portal into the remains of a disintegrated FORCE ship, which is swimming with floating bodies.
