Chapter 24

CEO Gladstone meets with a select senate committee and members of the military. The generals inform everyone that the Ouster counterattack is underway and that the first wave will claim several Hegemony worlds, each of which can offer little resistance because of the rerouting of FLEET forces to Hyperion. The following waves of Ouster forces can arrive at other Hegemony worlds, including Tau City Center in several days, again with little to stand in their way.

Gladstone meets in private with Ambassador Albedo of the TechnoCore and accuses him of betraying the Hegemony. Albedo tells her that Hyperion was always an unknown variable, but Gladstone senses betrayal from the CORE and informs Albedo that, depending on the outcome of the next few days, the Hegemony may have no choice but to declare war on the TechnoCore.
