Chapters 9-12 Summary

Chapter 9

Severn meets with CEO Gladstone the next morning and asks why she left the pilgrims to die by denying the Consul the use of his ship. She references the prophecy of the Shrike pilgrimage. Gladstone saw Hoyt's encounter with the Shrike as the moment when he presented it with his request and was killed.

Gladstone asks Severn to farcast to Hyperion with Leigh Hunt to examine the situation. Severn and Hunt arrive in the Hyperion system and take a dropship down to the planet's surface.

Chapter 10

The pilgrims move out of the storm and into the Time Tomb known as the Sphinx. They are not there long before they begin to hear rifle fire and other ballistic noises coming from outside.
