Chapter 5

The cruciforms on Father Hoyt are causing him nearly unbearable pain as he stumbles through the corridors of the Jade Tomb. He arrives in a large room containing a shaft in its middle. The Father is on his knees, screaming in agony when Brawne Lamia arrives, carrying her father's antique automatic pistol. The Shrike appears in the room and Lamia fires several shots at it before it slices Father Hoyt to pieces, and then vanishes.

Chapter 6

Severn awakes in Lady Filomel's bed. Two goons and her husband arrive and they capture him and administer him a truth serum. Lady Filomel and her husband grill him with questions and he tells them most of what he knows, including his viewings of the pilgrims, how CEO Gladstone engineered the war with the Ousters in a deal with the Core AIs, how the...
