Summary

The Demon of the Dark known as Morgoth rebels against Lord Manwё, plunging Middle-earth into darkness. Morgoth floods Valar, the home of the Valar (gods), and the gods head to the mountains of Valinor. There, Manwё and his wife Varda gather every beautiful thing and every piece of light they can find, planting trees that give light for seven hours at a time. Meanwhile, the Outer Lands - another name for Middle-earth - are plunged into darkness. The children of earth known as the Eldar (Elves) are found near the Water of Awakening. Oromё, one of the gods, reminds the others of their duty to the people of earth. The Valar take Morgoth captive, and the elves are brought to Valinor where they are divided into three types: Quendi (light elves), Noldoli (Gnomes and deep-elves) and the Teleri (sea-elves).
