Johannes

Johannes is a free dog who lives in a large park bordered by a city and an ocean. Johannes's mother was a pet who had her puppies in the park. Johannes is the only one who remains free, and he feels fortunate for that. During the events of this novel, Johannes learns he is half-coyote. He is shocked by the fact, but he continues his life as normal. Johannes fills the role of hero in this story. He is faithful in his duty to see and report what is happening in the park. He is loyal to his friends, and he seeks to right things he considers to be wrong. For example, he becomes convinced that the bison should be freed from their pen.
