Summary
In Chapter 29, Johannes plans to talk to the goats about their role in his plan to free the Bison. Helene tells him to bark to get their attention. He lets out a “yip,” but it is too quiet. He decides he must do better. He next roars out “a kind of bark that was also a howl and also a bellow and even a bit of a squall” (187). When he opens his eyes, all the goats are looking at him. Johannes is so terrified at the attention that he cannot think what to say. Helene prompts him about the upcoming “heroic act.” The plan is for the goats to create chaos as they are boarding the ship, so they cloak the fact that the Bison are in their midst.
