Summary

In Chapter 25, Johannes wakes amid chaos and confusion, but has no choice but to do his rounds. His friends have told him about the pictures of Johannes posted around the park, but Johannes is still surprised when he sees one for the first time. He cannot read the words but is still “startled and unnerved.” He soon realizes the signs are a warning. Yolanda, who can read, says the signs are warning about a coyote. Johannes has heard that coyotes are “mangy and troublesome and even dangerous” (152). He believed humans drove them out many years ago. He realizes that his failure to know there is a coyote in the park reflects poorly on his role as the Eyes. Yolanda flies away. Some humans see Johannes and chase him. He plays around for a bit, then runs away. When he arrives near the windmill...
