Summary

Chapter 17 opens with “They say I slept for weeks. It seemed like years. Centuries” (102). When he finally emerges, Yolanda, Sonja, and Bertrand are waiting. They say he must get back to his job as the Eyes. The three say they are not nearly as skilled as Johannes. This makes him feel better. However, his friends say there are a lot of photos of Johannes posted around the park. They worry he will be caught. Yolanda hands Johannes a garment that is meant to serve as a disguise. The idea is that people will assume Johannes belongs to someone if he is wearing the pink dog sweater and a collar. When Johannes refuses, Sonja becomes angry and suggests he remain hidden instead.
