Summary
In Chapter 9, Bertrand and Sonja say they saw Johannes when he was captured but had to wait for the right moment for the rescue. Several other animals have joined the gathering. They are talking and laughing about the humans' reactions. Johannes must admit that he was captivated by the painting. Some of the birds laugh when Johannes tries to explain why he was captivated. Johannes dreads telling the Bison about his capture. Freya is relieved he is safe. The Bison offer to let Johannes stay with them that night. Johannes knows the people will change things – including the hole in the fence – if he is found in the Bison pen. He spends the rest of the night running. He repeats his mantra about the Sun, clouds, and rain, then sleeps.
