Summary
Hazel saw Dunne off at the wharf as he departed for a physician’s conference in Part 7, Chapter 5, or “Hazel: Hobart Town, 1843.” While he was away for nearly two weeks, Maeve and Hazel would run the practice. When she returned, Maeve told Hazel a man had arrived and was now with Ruby. Hazel realized it was Buck standing beside Ruby with a knife in his hand. Hazel invited him inside for a snack with his requested tea. Once inside, Hazel pretended that Maeve had picked sage instead of mint, making an excuse to pick the angel’s trumpet in the front yard. He drank three cups of the tea while he ate. As he threatened Hazel with rape once more, he began to fall ill. Hazel explained that he was experiencing the effects of the poison from the angel’s trumpet...
