Summary

Part IV is titled The City and is dated 1005-1007 CE. Chapter 38 is dated November 1005. Wynstan has a lesion on his collarbone that he keeps hidden beneath his cloak. He does not feel well, but has traveled across England to be in Canterbury as Archbishop Elfric is dying. Wynstan wants to be named to the post, and knows he has to be here to make that happen. Wynstan begins manipulating the situation and seeking favor from those involved in Canterbury church.
