Lynn

Lynn is the first person narrator and main character of the short story. Lynn is born to two parents with DGD. Because of her parents' condition, Lynn has also inherited the disease. Therefore, as a teenager, she begins manipulating her diet as a means of claiming independence over her body and mind. Though she knows that treating her body could lead her to drift off, unable to engage with the world, she feels that her fate is inevitable no matter what she does. Because of her carelessness, her parents bring her to a Duryea-Gode ward. Lynn's experience at the ward is so traumatic, she refuses to even describe it in her narration.

Shortly after coming home she attempts suicide. Her father finds her. Their relationship is never the same afterwards. Three years later, when Lynn is finishing her senior year of high school, Lynn's father's condition overtakes him...
