Summary

George Spencer writes a letter to Charles Ambrose in order to discuss housing policy and he wants to use the Spencer trust his father left him to fund new housing complexes for the poor. Cora writes a letter to Stella hoping to take her and the children to the castle museum and she also writes to Will telling him that she has enclosed a pamphlet called “Strange News Out of Essex” about the serpent. In April Cora decides to move from Colchester to Aldwinter because she grew tired of the town and the encounter with Cracknell made her restless. Francis is happy to move because he is eager to see new things and he has exhausted everything in Colchester worth exploring.
