Summary
Chapter 22 begins the next Sunday morning, when Arturo begins cooking the commemorative meal for Abuela alongside Cari. Cari is imposing and in-control in the kitchen in a way Arturo is not used to. Arturo begins crying while cutting an onion, while Cari begins crying for real.
In Chapter 23, the commemorative meal goes well with the members of the community. Carmen reveals to Arturo that she has planted a floribunda bush in front of the restaurant, as a tribute to Abuela. Vanessa and her friends plan to sit-in on the restaurant property the next day, the day of the city council vote. Arturo reads a letter from Mop that describes his own flirtation with a girl at his camp.
