Summary
In August 1998, Kimiko tells Henry she is pregnant. She has had two abortions before, and what does he want to do? She is his best student at Juilliard, where the Van Ness is the Quartet-in-Residence. He might be only twenty-four, but as a prodigy he got a head start; she is just starting her career at twenty-two. Henry hates being called a prodigy because it is so isolating. He has never had a proper relationship, not even with Kimiko. Daniel and Lindsay vacation together and fight in public, and Brit and Paul spend evenings in together; Henry and Kimiko simply play music and have sex. They have never discussed their relationship. He wonders if he loves her.
