Summary

The quartet took so long to find each other that Jana fears they are too old for success. She and Henry met in conservatory, where they discovered that they both found creative satisfaction in ensemble, rather than the more prestigious solo or orchestral careers. Henry has always been younger, more talented, and more charismatic than everyone else, and Jana wants to be close to his lightness and talent. In return, she gives Henry a depth of friendship that his many acquaintances cannot offer.

One night in their last year, Jana suggests doing a chamber music certificate to find two more members and form a real quartet. When she admits that she fears his meteoric solo career will eclipse their friendship, Henry stops hesitating and agrees.
