Summary
In Chapter 10, Beeta hires a man named Issa to work as her gardener. Bahar narrates Issa’s family history. One day Issa’s grandmother, Homeyra, captures a jinn and enslaves it. Eventually, the jinn’s mother comes looking for it. Homeyra says she will only free the jinn if the mother blesses her daughters with healing powers. The jinn agrees, but says the blessing will be broken if Homeyra tells her daughters about their powers.
Homeyra’s first daughter, Parvaneh, discovers her powers and becomes a famous midwife. Eventually, some jinns recruit her to help deliver their own children, which must be kept secret. When her husband finds out, Parvaneh loses her powers and becomes cursed. When Parvaneh becomes pregnant with Issa, she dies once he is born.
Slowly, Beeta falls in love with Issa. She wonders if she feels more lust than...
