Summary
In Chapter 48, when the submarine reached port in Georgia, Henry was ready to get back to his family and his lab. The night before Henry was to go back to Atlanta, Dixon warned Henry there might come a time when being underwater would be the safest place to be. Dixon indicated his crew needed a doctor on board and that Henry was welcome to join them. Later, Murphy told Henry she hoped his family was waiting for him when he returned. She rubbed her thumb across his knuckles in a familiar way. Henry responded by kissing her hand. As a parting gift, Dixon gave Henry a new cane the handle of which was a bronze submarine.
In Chapter 49, it was late when Henry made it to his house the next day. The house was dark and the glass of the front door...
