Summary

When America returns to her room in Chapter 28, her maids applaud her for standing up for them. She decides to go out and runs into Maxon outside of the hospital wing. He admonishes her for what she did, reminding her how he does things in a quiet and small manner to implement change. As they are talking, there is a rebel attack and a guard ushers them into hiding. America realizes that something is wrong with Maxon as they go there and when they arrive she finds out that Maxon’s father canes him. He tells her that his father does not do this to his mother, but she gets mistreated in other ways. America takes care of his back and washes his shirt and then he wants to know if she wants to know about Kriss and Celeste.
