Summary
It is the next morning in Chapter 16. When America goes upstairs she assesses the damage and assumes that it is the Southerners who had attacked because there is a lot of debris. She wishes that the workers at the palace had tried harder to clean up. She sees some maids trying to wipe away a message on the wall. Her maids get her ready and she joins everyone outside where they are all working. She works with Kriss, but still remembers seeing her with Maxon. When she looks at Maxon, who is with his father, she notices that his father does not pay attention to Maxon’s comments and wonders about his methods. Kriss talks about how handsome Maxon is and having children with him. America changes the subject. Kriss excuses herself and goes to Maxon, as does Celeste. America is almost happy...
