String theory actually predicts gravity—if it was not apparent in the world around us, physicists would be able to deduce its existence using string theory. Though it is perhaps the most promising theory in the history of physics, the current inability of string theory to be experimentally tested is a big setback. Traditionalists in physics want theories to be experimentally testable, as experimentation has been the way to test theories for the last few centuries.
