Part 4, Paloma: Chapters 11-23, Profound Thought No. 15 and One Last Profound Thought Summary
In Chapter 12, Renee relates the story of her sister, who was much more beautiful than Renee, who moved to the city to work for a wealthy family. For a while it seemed the sister was finding success in the city. However, one rainy night Renee's sister came home, pregnant and abandoned. Renee's sister died in childbirth and the child died a short time later. Paloma listens to the story and tells Renee that she has given Paloma hope.
