Importance: Karin has been at Mark's bedside for two solid weeks and his communications, as expected are very limited. But one day, after Karin talks to Mark about some things from their childhood, Mark is overwhelmed and starts to make wild movements. Karin is frightened thinking that Mark is out of control when really he is trying to hug her, a gesture that she thought might never come again.

Importance: Mark's frustrations at being unable to speak correctly exhibit in outbursts of profane language. This is shocking but also shows that Mark knows he is not doing what he could be which will motivate him to keep trying.
