Summary

One day after being hospitalized for 2 weeks, Mark suddenly awakens with a start that scares Karin who is constantly at his bedside. For days Mark fights against his restrictions and begins to make guttural sounds which are painful for Karin to hear. Karin feels that Mark is begging her for something she cannot understand. One day, Mark's movements are exaggerated to the point that they scare Karin but an orderly sees it as Mark wanting to hug Karin.

Karin briefly returns to Sioux City where she has lost her job due to being gone to care for Mark. Karin takes care of a few things at her condo and then packs more clothes to take back with her to Kearney. Karin recalls Mark as a boy and how she had...
