Summary

In Chapter 18, Whistledown asks her readers if the men in town have been drinking more than usual.

Simon went out and got drunk that night. He did not return home until dawn. When Simon yelled at Daphne’s door, she yanked it open so quickly that Simon fell on the floor. Daphne was still furious with him, but found it hard to be angry when he was so pathetic. He told her that he wanted her back.

Simon admitted to Daphne that he wanted to win, just once. He said that in the past, his father had always won. Daphne told Simon he had won when he exceeded his father’s expectations.
