The Ward family began looking for a lawyer for Tommy. Unfortunately, most of the lawyers in town did not want the case because of the huge amount of public sentiment against Ward and Fontenot. Eventually Bud and Tricia Wolf contacted Don Wyatt, a local lawyer who had made his reputation on civil cases as well as the occasional criminal case.
