Summary

The first part of The Dragons, The Giant, The Women is called “Rainy Season.” Chapter 1 opens in Liberia and introduces author Wayétu Moore’s family. Mam, her mother, is living in America and sorely missed by her children and husband. Wayétu – called ‘Tutu’ by her family – is the middle child and has just turned five years old when the chapter begins. Wi is her elder sister and is six years old, while K is three and is the youngest. Torma, their cousin from their mother’s home village of Lai in Liberia, is staying with the girls as their nanny as their father works to take care of them in their mother’s absence. Korkor is the family’s help.
