Summary
The symbol at the beginning of Chapter Three is Bese Saka which “is the symbol of power, abundance, plenty, togetherness, and unity” (414). In “The Story of the Wrestlers” the reader learns about the annual fight at the Kings Festival. This fight is one time when the Lower Kwanta can be victorious. “The elders drink rum and make wagers on which will be victorious” while the women sing and dance (69). This is a happy time of family unity. After the fights, the victors are celebrated with “golden bracelets and cowrie necklaces and carried through the village like kings and queens on palanquins” while the losers are mocked (70).
