Summary
In Chapter 12, on Pincer’s ward, Penny told herself everything she would do after surviving the afternoon with her grandmother. When Pincer emerged, she demanded to see Burt. Penny tried explaining his health issues. Then she asked questions about the skeleton. Pincer said it “belonged to Dr. Hiroshi Matsumoto,” with whom she worked in Nagasaki (136). They had been close and Matsumoto had given Pincer legal rights to his body “and to science” after his death (136).
In Burt’s wing, Dale told Penny Burt was going into heart surgery. Pincer thought Burt should stay with her after his release. Penny worried he would be sliced up “on [Pincer’s] operating table” (139). At the house, Pincer was unfazed by the cleanliness, convinced she had done it herself. She and Penny discussed the investigation.
