Summary
In Chapter 28, Carrie is leaving class and talking to one of her classmates. She sees Kilroy across the street leaning against a car. He tells her that it is a rental and that they should “practice traveling together before France” (289) and that they’re going to Montauk. When they get to the ocean, Kilroy asks if it is the first time she has seen it. She tells him no and that her mother had taken her to the New Jersey shore when she was young. They stay in a roadside motel and return the next day.
Back at Kilroy’s apartment, Kilroy finds a note addressed to him. He tells her he needs to run an errand and then relents and says he needs to go his parents. Carrie asks to go with him. They take the train to...
